I think the way we bowled today was very smart – Hardik Pandya

Opting to bowl first, the Mumbai Indians bowlers did a great job on a slow pitch and restricted Sunrisers Hyderabad to a total of 162/5. Will Jacks bagged two wickets, while Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya picked up one wicket each.

Chasing the target, Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton, Will Jacks, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya made decent contributions, and the run-chase was completed in 18.1 overs.

During the post-match presentation ceremony, MI skipper Hardik Pandya lauded his bowling unit for sticking to plans and getting the job done. He said:

“I think the way we bowled today was very smart and spot on. We stuck to simple basic plans. Certain balls were not easy to hit. Credit to the bowlers that we made them hit some good shots. We were kind of squeezing them.”

If u look at it, had a nice green grass look to it – Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya further talked about the pitch and said that the ball was getting stuck on the surface. He elaborated:

“If u look at it, had a nice green grass look to it. The first couple of overs that Deepak bowled, couple of balls got stuck in. We decided to use change of pace balls. As soon as we figured out, we trying to mixing it up. We executed the yorkers very smartly.”

Hardik Pandya also hailed all-rounder Will Jacks, who dropped Abhishek Sharma on the first ball of the match, for his Player of the Match performance (36 runs & 2/14) against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He said:

“That is the beauty of Jacks. He can be a gun fielder. Bowl those gun overs. Today it came off for him. When we needed 42 off 42, it was tricky. We wanted to take our time. It is going to be a great game. It is going to be a packed house (against CSK).’

How did MI perform in the previous IPL match against SRH?

Mumbai Indians produced a clinical performance in their previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad and bagged a win by seven wickets at the Wankhede Stadium on May 6, 2024.

Opting to bowl first in the match, the Mumbai Indians restricted the dangerous SRH batting line-up to 173/8, thanks to three-wicket hauls from both Hardik Pandya (3/31) and Piyush Chawla (3/33) as well as an economical spell from Jasprit Bumrah (1/23).

Chasing the target, MI looked in early trouble with the bat. The top-order crumbled inside five overs as Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Naman Dhir fell cheaply to SRH pacers and were left reeling at 31/3 under massive pressure.

However, Suryakumar Yadav joined forces with Tilak Varma and played a magical knock. He dismantled the SRH attack with his aggressive batting, and Tilak Varma calmly supported him with a composed knock of 37* runs.

Suryakumar Yadav slammed a brilliant 102* runs off 51 balls and built a match-winning 143-run stand off just 79 balls with Tilak Varma to finish off the match in 17.2 overs.
