Vinicius Jr set to sign new deal at Real Madrid

Vinicius Jr is set to extend his stay at Real Madrid and sign a new contract, according to a report in Spain.

The future of the Brazil international has been a hot topic in the Spanish capital ever since it emerged in February that he had met with Saudi Pro League chiefs in 2023 to discuss a lucrative switch to the Middle East.

It was reported Vinicius Jr had been offered a five-year deal worth €1bn and that the proposal remained on the table.

The player’s representatives considered the offer “unprecedented and unrejectable”, according to Radio MARCA, even though the 24-year-old has stated he wanted to stay in Madrid with his current deal running until 2027.

Vini gets his wish

It now looks as though Vinicius Jr’s wishes have been taken into consideration with Cadena SER suggesting a new deal that will prolong his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu until potentially 2030 will be announced at the end of the season.

If correct, the news will come as a major boost to Madrid, who run the risk of ending the season empty handed.

They trail Barcelona by seven points in La Liga, although they can cut that gap back to four if they win their game in hand at Getafe tonight, while they face their Catalan rivals in the final of the Copa del Rey in Seville on Saturday.

Vinicius likely to have new coach next season

Madrid’s Champions League exit at the hands of Arsenal last week was a bitter blow and is likely to result in the departure of coach Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the season.

Vinicius Jr was a peripheral figure in both games, despite scoring at the Bernabeu, but has still delivered 20 goals and 14 assists in all competitions this season.

The South American joined Madrid in 2018 and has enjoyed great success, winning 14 major trophies, including three La Liga crowns and two Champions Leagues.
