Vignesh Puthur ruled out of IPL 2025 for Mumbai Indians; replacement picked


In a major setback for the Mumbai Indians in their pursuit of a record sixth IPL title, young spinner Vignesh Puthur has been ruled out for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. On Thursday, May 1, the Mumbai Indians brought in leg-spinner Raghu Sharma as a replacement for the injured Puthur for the remaining matches.

Vignesh Puthur had started to make an impression before an unfortunate injury ended his campaign. He made his debut for Mumbai in their season opener against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), where he took a three-wicket haul. Puthur took six wickets in five matches with an average of 18.16 and a strike rate of 12.

Raghu Sharma Replaces Injured Vignesh Puthur for the Remainder of IPL 2025

Mumbai Indians have signed leg-spinner Raghu Sharma as a replacement for the injured Vignesh Puthur. Sharma, who is yet to make his debut in the IPL, was acquired for ₹30 lakhs at his base price from the RAPP list.

“Mumbai Indians (MI) have signed leg-spinner Raghu Sharma as a replacement for Vignesh Puthur, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to injury,” the IPL statement read.

“This marks Sharma’s maiden stint in the IPL. He joins MI at his base price of INR 30 lakhs from the RAPP list.”
