The stock market got a boost from bank earnings on Tuesday.
The S&P 500 was up 0.5%, while the Dow was up 132 points, or 0.3%. The Nasdaq Composite was up 0.5%.
It was a sleepy start to the day for markets in the absence of Earth-shattering tariff headlines heading toward the midpoint of a holiday-shortened week.
