Blaze Spreads Fast Amid Weather Conditions
According to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service’s Facebook page, the Jones Road Wildfire erupted early Tuesday morning in the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area. The situation quickly escalated, fueled by dry conditions and strong winds. By Tuesday night, the fire had already consumed 8,500 acres. As of Wednesday evening, emergency officials had the blaze 50% contained.
Fire crews continue to battle the flames on the ground and by air, to slow the spread and protect nearby communities. While no injuries have been reported, several businesses in Lacey Township’s industrial park have suffered damage, and the blaze has left more than 25,000 customers without power.
All evacuation orders have been lifted for over 5,000 residents evacuated from affected areas on April 22. Emergency shelters were set up for displaced residents. Only 20 structures are threatened as of Wednesday evening.
Furthermore, the cause of the wildfire is still under investigation, but authorities have not ruled out human involvement. The incident comes as wildfire season ramps up across the northeastern United States, where dry weather has heightened fire risks. Residents are advised to monitor local alerts and follow all evacuation instructions. The Forest Fire Service continues to provide updates as the situation evolves.

Similar Fires Hit LA Earlier This Year, Raising Concerns
Back in January, Los Angeles was literally on fire, and we’re not talking about the heatwave. Several fires, including the Palisades and Eaton Fires, tore through the city destroying more than 18,000 structures, and leaving at least 29 people dead, says NBC News. With Santa Ana winds reaching up to 100 mph, these blazes were fueled by dry conditions and a buildup of vegetation from the previous winter, making them some of the most destructive in California’s history, according to NPR.
But it wasn’t just the flames that had LA shook. The fires disrupted major events like the Critics Choice Awards and Oscar nominations. Additionally, celebrities including Jhene Aiko, Paris Hilton, and Tina Knowles lost homes in the devastating wildfires, while others evacuted.
