Washington Democrats introduce laws to take away George Washington from state flag
Progressive Washington state lawmakers have launched a invoice that would take away George Washington from the state flag.

“The flag contains a detailed portrait of George Washington, making it overly complicated and tough to breed which is a violation of key flag design rules that prioritize simplicity. Moreover, whereas George Washington is a crucial nationwide determine, he has restricted historic connection to the state itself. This makes his picture much less significant as a logo for the state,” the invoice states.

The legislators say the flag can be aesthetically disagreeable as a result of it “makes use of too many colours” and its design is “outdated and uninspired.”
The invoice would set up a committee to develop a brand new design for the official state flag that displays Washington’s “shared historical past, assets and numerous cultural communities.”
The committee could be comprised of representatives from the Washington State Arts Fee, legislators from the Home and Senate, the secretary of state, a historian, designers, cultural leaders, tribal representatives, and citizen representatives from completely different areas of the state, appointed by the governor.

Voters should approve the brand new flag design within the subsequent basic election earlier than it may be adopted as the brand new state flag.
Democratic State Representatives Strom Peterson, Julia Reed and Greg Nance launched the invoice on February 11.

The proposal has drawn criticism from Republican lawmakers within the state.
State Rep. Brian Burnett, a Republican, mentioned to Washington radio station KPQ, “We now have the third-highest crime fee within the nation. We now have the third-highest price of gasoline, the third-highest homeless inhabitants, and the fourth-most costly housing. So that is what we must be spending our time on? Are you kidding me?”
Reps. Strom Peterson, Julia Reed and Greg Nance didn’t instantly return Fox Information Digital’s request for remark.
